Thank you for taking the time to find out what it means to be involved with the Gogebic-Ontonagon Great Start Collaborative.
We are a group of dedicated community leaders working to improve coordination, delivery, and access to services for young children in Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties in order to provide all children with a great start!
The Great Start Collaborative or GOGSC formed in October 2008 when the Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District received a grant from the Early Childhood Investment Corporation (ECIC). We work collaboratively as representatives from many varying backgrounds to make it possible for every child to be ready for success in school and life. As a parent, grandparent, child-care provider, educator, director, service provider, faith-based leader, business leader, or community member, your voice is needed and is heard here.
The Great Start Collaborative believes all children should enter school safe, healthy, prepared for learning, and ready to succeed in school and life. We focus on children ages zero to eight because research shows 90% of young children’s brains form in the early years of life, and yet only about 5% of public spending is spend in these formative years.
As a member, you will have access to many other people within the two counties that are committed to helping our youngest citizens. We encourage all members to be actively involved in meetings, teams, public outreach activities, and to work together to help our young children.
