CTE Facility Project Description
The Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District (GOISD) has committed to expanding and investing in Career and Technical Education. The GOISD recently purchased a building in Ontonagon County to set the stage for substantial facility improvements and expanded career and technical education opportunities. This facility serves high school students from three districts: Ontonagon, Ewen-Trout Creek, and Watersmeet Township. Current programming options include Health Sciences/Nursing, Welding, and Food Systems and Natural Resources. GOISD plans to add a dedicated classroom and lab space for a new Construction Trades program in the near future.
Part of this investment includes a renovation and addition to the building to support program enhancement and expansion. The facility dates back to the 1970s and is in need of major improvements. The GOISD Board of Education approved a $3.3 million funding plan to support the facility upgrades and program expansion. This plan includes the use of GOISD General Fund Balance, the sale of non-voted bonds, and the sale of energy conservation bonds. The estimated completion date for this project is fall 2026.
